 Jim Bartholomay
Commander, Backus Sons of the American Legion Squadron #368

The Backus Sons of the American Legion Squadron #368 has  elected its first slate of officers. The unit,  paired with the Backus Legion under its charter, supports the Legion’s activities on behalf of veterans, youth, community, state, nation and post operations as well as initiating its own programs in those areas. The squadron, together with the Legion post and Auxiliary, form what is known nationally and the American Legion Family.
Founding in 1932, the Sons of the American Legion in 2017 reached a national high of 365,000 members. Sons of parents and grandparents who served in the military and were eligible for American Legion membership, or of deceased grandparent or parent veterans who were honorably discharged, may join the organization.
The Backus unit, which has steadily grown in numbers, now stands an all-time high of 37 members, joining the Auxiliary which began this year with 116  members and the post proper which expects to again exceed its goal of 119  members this Legion year – making more than 270 members the total size of the American Legion Family at Maxon-Van Eps American Legion Post #368.
Information on membership in the Backus SAL and its activities is available from the commander by e-mailing bartholomay8@gmail.com and nationally by entering Sons of the American Legion on your web home search page.
